Leaked Content on Reddit: Which Report Actually Works
Reddit acts on leaked content, and it can go further than removing a post — it bans repeat uploaders and can ban whole subreddits built around sharing it. But it has two separate routes, and the one that sounds right for leaked intimate content explicitly does not cover content you sold.
Reddit is one of the places leaked creator content travels fastest, partly because subreddits dedicated to it are easy to find and partly because Reddit posts rank well in search. It is also one of the platforms most willing to act, if you use the route that fits what was taken.
Two routes, one important exclusion
- Copyright report
- For copyright owners or their authorised representatives. Reddit removes the content, tells the uploader, confirms with you, and bans repeat infringers.
- Non-consensual intimate media report
- For intimate media created or posted without permission, including AI-generated fakes. Available through the inline report button or Reddit's dedicated page.
The second route sounds like the obvious one for leaked intimate content. But Reddit's own rule is explicit: it "does not apply to media distributed commercially with the consent of those depicted", and it reminds readers to keep Reddit's intellectual property rules in mind. Content you sell on a subscription platform falls squarely in that exclusion.
| What was posted | The report to use |
|---|---|
| Paid content copied from your page | Copyright |
| A recording of your cam show | Copyright |
| Photos copied from your social accounts | Copyright — Reddit's own example of a copyright violation is exactly this |
| Private material you never published | Non-consensual intimate media |
| AI-generated or faked explicit content of you | Non-consensual intimate media |
| Posts soliciting your content or "lookalikes" | Non-consensual intimate media |
The same split appears on Google and in US law, and the reason is the same everywhere: protections for non-consensual imagery are built for material that was never meant to be public. Copyright protects the rest.
Filing a copyright report
Reddit's copyright form is for copyright owners or people authorised to act for them, and Reddit asks that every required element is included to avoid delays.
- Collect the post links The permalink to each post or comment, not the subreddit's front page. One report can list many links.
- Screenshot with the address visible Each post with its link and the date. Leak posts are often deleted and reposted.
- Identify the original Where the work was first published, so it is clear what was copied.
- Complete the form fully Your details or your agent's, the description of the work, the links, the good-faith statement and the statement under penalty of perjury.
- Keep the confirmation Reddit confirms removal with the reporter. Log it — the record matters later.
When Reddit receives a valid notice, it removes the content, notifies the person who posted it, and confirms the removal to you. The uploader can appeal within six months if they believe the removal was a mistake — which is where counter-notices come in.
Think about whose name goes on the notice. The uploader is told their content was removed after a copyright notice, and Reddit's counter-notification process involves passing personal information between the two sides. If you work under a stage name, file through a business you own or an agent authorised to act for you.
Going after leak subreddits, not just posts
Reporting individual posts in a subreddit built for leaks can feel endless. It is not wasted effort, because of what Reddit says it does with the pattern:
- Accounts: Reddit bans user accounts that repeatedly violate its copyright policy, in appropriate circumstances.
- Subreddits: Reddit may ban subreddits after multiple removals of violating content, or where it is clear the subreddit is dedicated to sharing it.
Every well-documented report adds to that record. A subreddit that keeps generating valid copyright removals is building the case for its own ban.
- Report every infringing post, even in a subreddit where it feels hopeless. The count is the point.
- Keep a log per subreddit: links, dates, outcomes. A clear pattern is easier for Reddit to act on.
- Report the accounts that post repeatedly, not only the posts.
- Watch for the subreddit relaunching under a similar name, and start the same process there.
Moderators of a community can remove content quickly, but in subreddits built around leaks the moderators are usually part of the problem. Go to Reddit directly.
Using the intimate media report
For private material, ex-partners and fakes, the non-consensual intimate media report is the better tool. It does not require you to prove ownership, it covers AI-generated content that copyright may not reach, and Reddit uses automated hashing — alongside human review — to detect and stop the spread of known non-consensual intimate imagery.
You can report through the button on the post itself or through Reddit's dedicated page, and you do not have to be the person depicted to report on someone's behalf.
Reddit is rarely the only place
Reddit posts often link out to a host — an image site, a file locker, a Telegram channel. Removing the Reddit post stops that route to the content, but the host keeps it. Report the host too, and remember that Reddit threads rank in search: a post that has been removed from Reddit can linger in search results until it is re-crawled, so a search removal request is worth adding where it ranks for your name.
- Removing leaked content from Google Search covers the search side.
- File and album hosts have their own processes: MEGA can remove the identical file from every account that holds it, and Erome takes copyright notices through its report page.
- Leaked content on Telegram covers the most common place Reddit leak posts point to.
- The Take It Down Act covers what US platforms now have to do with non-consensual intimate images, and where it does not reach paid content.
