OnlyFans for Creators: The Questions Everyone Actually Asks
The same handful of questions come up every time a creator starts on OnlyFans, or starts taking it seriously. Here they are, in the order they usually get asked, with straight answers.

The cut comes off before the money reaches your balance, which is the source of most confusion later on: the figure on your earnings chart and the figure you withdraw are not the same number, and neither of them is wrong.

Paid message prices are set per account rather than platform-wide, so your ceiling is not necessarily the same as another creator's. If a price is refused, that is your account's limit talking, not a bug.
Can I run a free trial?
Yes, and you control the length. A fan needs a valid card on file even though nothing is charged during the trial.
Shorter trials are widely reported to convert better. A 7-day window forces a decision; a 30-day window teaches the fan to postpone one.
When do I actually get paid?
The minimum is $20, and money sits in a 7-day rolling pending window before it becomes available. Withdrawals can be manual, weekly or monthly.
That rolling window is why your available balance never matches what you earned this week — part of this week's money is still pending. Nothing is missing.
Currencies differ and are not converted — this compares thresholds as each platform states them. Maloum pays from roughly EUR 1 and is omitted for scale.
How do I put a price on a message?
- Type a message… Open the conversation and write your message.
- Attach your media from the vault or by upload.
- Open the price control from the toolbar and enter your amount in dollars.
- Save. The price now shows as a chip on the message.
- SEND Send it.
Two things here look like faults and are not:
Once a price is set, the toolbar button disables itself. To change the amount, click the price chip already showing on the message. Plenty of people conclude the control is broken and start the message over.
"Attach media first" is folk wisdom rather than a documented rule. Many creators find the price control only wakes up after attaching something, and that matches how other platforms behave — but OnlyFans does not list media among the things that disable it. Attaching first is a safe habit; we would not swear it is required.
Why does my earnings total look better than my payout?
Because the figure that reads like a running total is the net one — already after the 20%. Read it as gross and your margin looks impossibly good.

Why do my statistics look out of date?
Some OnlyFans figures carry a documented 24-hour delay — the platform says so in its own copy. Today's numbers are not final today, so do not judge a post's performance on the same evening you published it.
Can I export my earnings?
No. There is no CSV or export control anywhere on the earnings screens, so reconciliation is manual or nothing.
What you do get is unusually good per-fan detail: each subscriber's spend split across tips, posts, messages, streams and subscriptions, with subscribe and expiry dates. Few platforms break a single fan down that far. Subscriber counts also split into active, online, blocked, expired, muted and restricted.
The top-fans view stays empty until you have real volume, which is normal rather than broken.
Can I have subscription tiers?
No — OnlyFans has one subscription price per account. Creators who want several price points generally end up running more than one account.
This is the main functional reason creators add Fansly, which supports up to five tiers on a single account.
What can I send in a DM, and what only works in a post?
In a DM: GIFs and voice notes both work — voice through either the in-app recorder or by attaching an audio file. Paid messages and scheduling work too.
Posts only: polls, quizzes, fundraising targets and post expiry. If you are hunting for a poll inside a conversation, it is not there and never was — the chat composer deliberately carries a smaller toolbar.
Other things that catch people out
On the earnings charts, "total" means net
The chart data calls the gross figure gross and the net figure total. The UI labels them GROSS and NET. If you read total as a total, every number you derive from it is wrong.
The chart label and the data key disagree
Feed PPV appears as "Posts" but keys as post; chat PPV appears as "Messages" but keys as chat_messages. Worth knowing if you ever export or reconcile.
Media can send before it finishes transcoding
A voice note sent immediately came back flagged not-ready, and the duration can show 00:00 until processing completes. The message is delivered; only the preview lags.
Polls, quizzes, fundraising and expiry are post-only
The chat composer has a deliberately smaller toolbar. If you are hunting for a poll inside a DM, it is not there.
The question nobody asks early enough
The most expensive OnlyFans problem is not pricing or statistics. It is losing access.
Accounts get restricted on login and device signals far more often than on content. A manager signing in from another country on their own laptop looks, to an automated system, exactly like an account takeover. Detection is instant, review is slow, and subscriptions lapse while you wait.
