The Price Field Is Greyed Out: Why, by Platform
On almost every platform here, a disabled price control means there is nothing to price yet. Attach media and it wakes up. The exceptions are worth knowing, because two of them are not about media at all.
The one-line answer
Attach media, then set the price. That resolves it on Fanvue, Brezzels, 4based, Maloum and Privacy, and it is sound practice on OnlyFans even though the rule there is murkier.
The reason it feels like a bug is that no platform explains it. The control is simply inert, with no tooltip and no message.
Per platform
| Platform | Why it is disabled | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Fanvue | Control is disabled until media is attached — in both the chat and post composers | Attach a photo or video |
| Brezzels | Toggle is clickable but the amount field refuses a value without media | Attach from device or Content Cloud first |
| 4based | The price dialog only appears after you record or upload | Record or attach, then the dialog offers a price |
| Maloum | The price control belongs to the attachment, reached via the vault | Tap the photo icon, pick media, press Weiter |
| Fansly | The price is a permission on the attachment, not a message field | Attach, then use Require Purchase — or use Locked Text for text alone |
| OnlyFans | Disabled by an existing price, an expired poll, a fundraising target, a tip value, or a showing GIF | See below — media is genuinely unclear here |
| Privacy | Limits come from your account configuration | Check the price is within your configured range |
The OnlyFans exception
OnlyFans is the one case where "attach media first" is folk wisdom rather than confirmed fact, and it is worth being precise about.
The conditions that actually disable the price control are:
- An expired poll is present on the post.
- The post already has a price set.
- A fundraising target is set.
- A tip value is set.
- A GIF is currently showing.
Media is not on that list. Yet creators widely report the control only becoming usable after attaching something, which matches the pattern everywhere else.
Either way the practical advice is the same: attach media first, and if the price is still dead, work down the list above.
The other OnlyFans case: you already set a price
This one catches people repeatedly and looks exactly like a fault.
Once a price is applied, the toolbar price button disables itself. To change the amount you click the price chip already showing on the message — not the toolbar control.
People conclude the feature has broken, start a new message, and lose what they had written.
When it is a limit rather than a state
Sometimes the control works and your value is refused. That is a different problem:
Log axis. Fanvue's $3 floor is the highest minimum here, so a $1 or $2 price is rejected there while being perfectly valid on Fansly.
Two specific cases:
Fanvue rejects anything under $3. If you are used to pricing cheap impulse unlocks, Fanvue simply will not accept them. Its price dialog states the range in its own validation text.
Privacy has a separate, lower ceiling for card payments. So a price that is valid in general can be refused for a fan paying by card. Worth knowing before you conclude the field is broken.
Combination rules that block pricing
On Fanvue, a price can be refused not because of media but because of what else is on the post:
- PPV cannot be combined with a poll.
- PPV cannot be combined with post expiry.
The composer blocks both. If you have a poll on a post and the price control will not engage, remove the poll.
A diagnostic order that works
- Is media attached? If not, attach it. This is the answer roughly four times out of five.
- Is a price already set? On OnlyFans the toolbar control disables itself afterwards — click the price chip instead.
- Is your amount inside the platform's range? Fanvue rejects under $3; Privacy has a lower cap for card payments.
- Is something else on the post blocking it? On Fanvue, a poll or an expiry will. On OnlyFans, a fundraising target, a tip value or a showing GIF will.
- Are you trying to sell text with no media? Only Fansly's Locked Text genuinely supports that.
The one platform where text alone works
Fansly's Locked Text creates a separate object carrying its own price, with the message body left empty. It is the only confirmed implementation of paid text with no media across all seven platforms.
If selling written content is central to what you do, that is a real reason to be on Fansly — the Fansly guide covers how it works, and be careful not to confuse it with Lock Replies, which restricts who may reply and charges nobody.
