How to Send a Paid Message on Every Creator Platform

Nearly every platform here shares one rule that nothing on screen explains: you cannot set a price until media is attached. Once you know that, the price control being greyed out stops being a mystery and the rest is just knowing where each button lives.

The rule that applies almost everywhere

Attach media first, then set the price.

Fanvue disables the price control until something is attached. Brezzels lets you click the toggle but will not accept an amount. 4based only offers a price dialog after you have recorded or uploaded. Maloum's price control appears on the attachment. Fansly's price is a permission on the attachment.

The exception is Fansly's Locked Text, which exists precisely to sell text with no media — and OnlyFans, where the situation is genuinely unclear (more on that below).

So when the price button looks broken, the answer is almost always that there is nothing to price yet.

OnlyFans

OnlyFans
  1. Type a message… Open the conversation and write your message.
  2. Attach media from the vault or by upload.
  3. Open the price control from the toolbar and enter the amount in dollars.
  4. Save. A price chip now shows on the message.
  5. SEND Send.

Two behaviours that look like faults and are not:

Once a price is set, the toolbar price button disables itself. You change the amount by clicking the price chip on the message, not the toolbar button.

Whether media is genuinely required first is unresolved. Many creators report it, and it fits the pattern everywhere else. But OnlyFans' own client lists what disables the price control — an expired poll, an existing price, a fundraising target, a tip value, a showing GIF — and media is not on that list. Treat "attach first" as sound practice rather than a confirmed rule.

Your limits are account-specific rather than platform constants.

Fansly

Fansly — with media
  1. Upload New / From Vault Attach your media.
  2. Require Purchase In the media permissions dialog, switch this on and enter the amount.
  3. Confirm Apply, then send.
Fansly — text with no media
  1. Create your Locked Text Open the locked-text control from the toolbar.
  2. Write the text you are selling.
  3. Set Access Permissions — price, following, subscribed or tipped.
  4. Create Attach it and send. The message body stays empty.

Do not confuse Require Purchase with Lock Replies. The second controls who may reply and charges nobody. Getting them the wrong way round produces either a paid post anyone can read or a free post nobody can buy — and both look fine in the composer.

Also worth knowing: the message's own price field stays at zero. The real amount lives on the attachment's permission entry. Fansly has no message-level price at all.

Fanvue

Fanvue
  1. Type a message Write your message. Long messages are fine here.
  2. Add file to message Attach media. The price control is disabled until you do.
  3. Set price Open the price dialog. It states its own range: $3.00 to $500.00.
  4. Confirm A price-to-view chip appears with the amount on it.
  5. Send Send it.

Fanvue guards against accidental giveaways: send media with no price and it asks you to confirm first. Genuinely useful.

Ignore the second price. A $5 PPV shows both $5.00 and a localised figure like EUR 4.34 — the second is a display helper and should never be reconciled against.

Fanvue's $3 floor is the highest minimum of any platform here.

Maloum

Maloum
  1. Schreibe eine Nachricht Open the conversation and type your message.
  2. Tap the photo icon — this navigates you to the vault rather than attaching in place.
  3. Weiter Pick or upload media there and confirm. You return with a 1/1 attachment chip.
  4. Füge einen Preis hinzu Add a price. Maloum accepts a very wide range.
  5. Send.

The photo icon behaviour is the thing to know: it takes you away from the conversation instead of holding a file in the composer. Not a bug, just not what the icon implies.

Maloum's EUR 9999 ceiling is the highest in this set by a wide margin.

Brezzels

Brezzels
  1. Nachricht eingeben Open the conversation and type your message.
  2. Open the attach drawer — upload content, choose from the Content Cloud, or record audio.
  3. Medien hinzufügen Pick your media and confirm.
  4. Preis eingeben Enter a price, then confirm with Preis festlegen. A chip shows the amount.
  5. Send.

Chat price limits are not published on Brezzels. The EUR 5–500 range applies to feed posts; the chat control shows no range, and the two are not documented as sharing one. Test small before pricing a high-value DM.

Also remember Brezzels submits prices in two currencies at once.

4based

4based
  1. Nachricht schreiben... Open the conversation. The toolbar has four controls: tip, camera, microphone and options.
  2. Vom Gerät hochladen Attach an image or video.
  3. Preis in $ Enter your price. This is the ex-VAT figure — the panel shows your share and the fan's total.
  4. Mit Preis senden Send priced, or Kostenlos senden to send it free.

The unlock chip will show the figure you typed, not what the fan pays. Enter $5 and the fan is charged $6.05 while you receive $3.50. The 4based guide has the full breakdown.

For a voice note, the price dialog appears after you stop recording, not before — and the recorder caps at two minutes with no way to attach a prepared file.

Side by side

Platform Attach media first? Price range
OnlyFans Usually, in practice Depends on your account
Fansly No — Locked Text sells writing on its own $1 – $500
Fanvue Yes, the price stays dead until you do $3 – $500
Maloum Yes, and the price sits on the attachment EUR 1 – EUR 9999
Brezzels Yes, the amount field refuses without it Not published for chat
4based Yes Not published

Three habits worth having

Price before you send, always. No platform here lets you add a price afterwards. A message sent free stays free.

Check the chip says what you meant. On 4based it will not — it shows your ex-VAT input. On Fanvue there will be a second decorative figure. On Fansly the price is not on the message at all.

Test near an unpublished limit rather than guessing. Brezzels chat and 4based both keep their ceilings to themselves.

If you run more than one of these, the switching cost is real — different button names, different units, different rules about what has to exist before a price can. A single inbox across platforms removes most of that, which is what HoneyChatting does for OnlyFans, Fansly, Fanvue and Maloum today.

Common questions

Why is the price button greyed out?
On almost every platform, because no media is attached yet. Fanvue and Brezzels both disable the price control until something is attached, and 4based only offers a price after you have recorded or uploaded. Attach first, price second.
Which platform lets me charge for text with no media?
Fansly, via Locked Text — confirmed working. OnlyFans appears to allow it but we have never verified it. Fanvue and 4based both require media.
Why does my price look wrong after sending?
On 4based the chip shows your ex-VAT price, not what the fan pays. On Fanvue a second localised figure appears next to the real one and is decorative. On Fansly the message's own price field stays at zero because the price lives on the attachment.
Can I set a price after sending?
No. On every platform here the price is applied before the message goes out. Send it free and it stays free.
